St. Andrew’s, 3107 Main Street between Highgate and Lisbon: They offer the Eucharist on Sundays at 8 and 10:30 in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.

Calvary Church, 20 Milton St., Williamsville: Has a reputation for good music. Their Sunday Eucharist is at 8 and 10 (choir at 10). To get there, take Main Street into Williamsville, turn right onto Cayuga, and the church will be on your right.

Masjid al-Taqwa, 40 Parker Ave.: On Parker Ave., which is accessible by subway (opposite the Amherst St. station). By car, simply take Main Street south and make a right onto Amherst Street. It is at the corner of E. Amherst and Parker.

Masjid al-Noor, 745 Heim Road in Getzville: Closer to the North Campus. Friday prayers are held at both mosques and start at 1:15 p.m.

Roman Catholicism:

Newman Center, North Campus, 495 Skinnersville Rd, Amherst, NY 14228: UB North Campus Newman Center: An excellent option on Skinnersville Rd. with a vibrant community. Father Pat is an incredibly generous and welcoming man who has been working with students for a long time. Take the time to check out their Wednesday night dinners for students too! St. Benedict’s, 1317 Eggert Rd. Serving the local Amherst/Snyder community. Mass on Saturdays at 5 pm and Sundays at 8, 10, and 11: 30 am. There is a wonderful choir and many families attend Sunday mass here. It is also a five minute drive from school, just head north on Main Street.

St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo: This is the seat of the Bishop of Buffalo and as such it is the site of many large events and masses of special occasion. It is located downtown just south of city hall and is worth the trip to simply take in the layout and beauty of the church.

St. Joseph’s University Parish, Adjacent to campus at 3269 Main Street near Winspear: This is the beautiful church on Main St. right next to south campus. It is a large and active community with multiple masses including an 8pm student mass for those who aren’t into waking up before noon on a Sunday. Fr. Jack is very present to the students and is always willing to help if asked. Check out their frequent theology on tap programs as well as numerous service opportunities.

St. Louis, 35 Edward St., Buffalo: Located closer towards downtown on Main street this is a must-see and experience kind of church. It is breathtaking both in and out. Even if you don’t go to mass or are not Catholic it is worth stepping inside to look at the architecture and art.

St. Mark’s and St. Rose of Lima, 401 Woodward Ave & 500 Parker Ave, Buffalo: These two churches located at Amherst St. and just off Hertel respectively have now combined to be led by one pastor. This community also supports a Catholic grade school so there are many families and young children who are at mass each week.
